Job Summary
The Senior Payroll Coordinator is responsible for advanced, multi‑state payroll processing with a strong emphasis on payroll tax accuracy, complex audit execution, data integrity, and proactive problem‑solving. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, the ability to interpret intricate spreadsheets and large datasets, and the judgment to identify potential payroll issues before they impact employees. The Senior Payroll Coordinator works collaboratively across departments, supports Payroll Coordinators as an elevated resource, and plays a key role in process improvement and operational consistency across the payroll function.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Run full-cycle payrolls (weekly/bi-weekly) for multi-state employee groups, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and auditability.

• Identify, design, and execute complex audits (tax validations, pay variances, timekeeping integrity checks, retro/true‑up reviews, cross-system reconciliations) and turn findings into actionable fixes.

• Interpret large, complex datasets (multi-sheet Excel workbooks, payroll previews, exception/variance reports) to detect irregularities before release and assess business needs for reporting.

• Apply current federal, state, and local payroll requirements; research and resolve discrepancies with internal teams and external providers.

• Support quarter-end and year-end activities (e.g., W-2 previews, reconciliation, state balancing) and contribute to documentation (SOPs, checklists, audit templates).

• Serve as an escalation resource for Payroll Coordinators and partner cross-functionally to resolve issues with clarity and professionalism.

• Complete projects associated with any aspect of payroll processing as assigned by Payroll Manager or Team Lead. • Build strong working relationships within the Payroll team, internal partners, and vendors.


Qualifications

• 3-5 years multi-state payroll experience.

• Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred.


Competencies

• Proven strength in organization, attention to detail, and managing multiple deadlines.

• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills. Able to translate technical payroll topics for non-experts.

• Strong understanding of multi-state payroll taxation.

• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (X-lookups, pivot tables, multi-sheet analysis’) and comfortable with high volume data.



Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Performs sedentary work in an office environment with limited lifting (less than 10 pounds) or walking required. Close visual acuity required to perform work at computer terminal. No exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires repetitive typing motion, talking, hearing, grasping and feeling.
