As a Technical Product Manager at Extra Space Storage, you will be responsible for collaborating with business and software development partners to build on an ever-growing suite of microservices, API’s, application-to-application integrations, and partnerships that power key business functions. Your job will be to understand the various integrations between applications, partners, vendors and others. Building a system that will scale is imperative to the success of multiple products and programs within Extra Space.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage research, evaluation, execution, and introduction of microservice opportunities, API strategy, application-to-application integration improvement, etc.

  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to determine priority for backend engineering teams

  • Work closely with backend engineering team in an agile environment to deliver products to market

  • Utilize data and metrics to measure success, make recommendations, and drive actions

  • Partner with stakeholders to determine technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues

  • Work with other departments to establish a design, technology, product development, vendor strategy, and vision

  • Manage subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs

  • Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets

  • Conduct initial market and design research relating to new products

  • Identify and evaluate new vendors or suppliers as needed

Job Specifications

  • Ability to drive strategic direction

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships

  • Experience with backend services, APIs, and microservice architecture

  • Ability to understand technical details and explain them to non-technical audiences

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required 

  • 5 years' experience in the related area preferred

  • Previous microservices, APIs, or backend product management experience

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Software Development experience not required but a plus
