This opportunity is based out of our corporate office in Salt Lake City, UT, with the option for remote work available.

Responsibilities

  • The Director, UX Design will lead and manage a team of UX designers to create best-in-class experiences for Extra Space’s e-commerce website and internal call center application, both used to drive rentals for retail locations across the country. In addition, this role will oversee a suite of digital products that customers interact with during their customer journey.

  • Responsible for building out a UX vision, strategy and team, taking it from its infancy to a more mature state and to a place where UX becomes a major force in driving conversion rates and speed to execution across all digital products.

  • Collaborate with creative project manager and team for reporting, team assignments, status and updates

  • Work closely with team leaders in marketing, product, creative, engineering, other key stakeholders on a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Lead the product design process and work closely with leadership across the customer-facing website and digital products team, to create world class experiences and achieve business goals

  • Lead, motivate, and inspire UX team members, ensuring that all members are completing work on time and delivering a high quality, well researched product

  • Manage team resourcing, ensuring designers are paired with projects that play to their strengths, challenge them, and allow for growth

  • Mentor designers toward top performance and help them track toward long-term career goals

  • Enhance user experience by creating seamless navigation through various digital programs and products within the company

  • Understand product specifications and user psychology

  • Manage concept and usability testing and gather feedback

  • Keep abreast of competitor products and industry trends

  • Meet with key leaders and stakeholders to understand business goals, target audience, consumer journeys and other factors that will impact that user experience approach; Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform designs and solutions (e.g. web metrics, a/b test results, third party research, consumer profiles, etc.)

  • Lead design critiques, encourage diversity of ideas, and foster a healthy collaborative team culture; Lead the exploration of new, innovative design solutions and patterns; Become experts in creating consumer journeys

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in creating and implementing UX/UI design for web and mobile/app design (native Android/iOS app)

  • 3+ years leading UX design teams and implementing design processes

  • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role

  • Strong portfolio of design projects

  • Background in project management and research

  • Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture

  • Proficient in design software (e.g. Figma, Balsamiq, InVision, Zeplin)

  • BS in Design, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

  • Proficient with visual design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and others

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment to create top-performing interfaces for clients

  • Experience with coding and ability to troubleshoot using HTML, CSS, Java Script and comparable languages is a plus

  • Continued education and research into UX/UI trends and current design strategy and technologies

  • Professional written and interpersonal skills when communicating with customers and clients

  • Ability to prioritize and manage several milestones and projects efficiently

  • Account for challenges using problem-solving skills and seek to optimize data for the best possible outcome

  • Experience creating storyboards and website mapping

  • Understanding of Apple’s human interface design guidelines, Android design and other mobile platform designs, including Google’s material design
