The Corporate Human Resource Manager supports all day-to-day aspects of Extra Space Storage’s employee relations functions and services for the Store Support Center. This role reports to the Sr. Director of Human Resources. By applying human resource policies, programs, knowledge, and practices to provide a balanced, strategic guidance and technical assistance to all departments and executive management, the Corporate Human Resource Manager will be an innovative and collaborative partner that will promote organization and employee effectiveness, advance the company's strategic objectives, and embrace our culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes company-wide human resource strategies to provide effective support to managers and employees. Diagnose problems that influence performance and develop cost-effective solutions to promote well-managed change and a balanced program throughout the company.
  • Partner with managers and employees to carry out disciplinary practices, termination procedures, complaint resolution, investigations of employment practices, worker’s compensation and unemployment administration and arbitration procedures. Utilize in-depth knowledge of company policies, past practices and employment law. Obtain necessary approval of the executive management before the implementation of termination procedures. Confer with Senior Leadership before regarding precedent setting issue and administrative practices. Resolve employee relations issues in a productive and service oriented way.
  • Partner with assigned Recruiter to ensure effective and responsive service to hiring managers and employees in all departments. Manage onboarding of all SSC employees ensuring an efficient process and smooth and engaging new employee experience for all new hires regardless of department.
  • Partner with department heads and managers in support of company efforts including new manager transition meetings, focus groups, and other global support programs as requested.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of management requirements, wage and salary principles and wage and hour laws.
  • Continued study of new human resource practices, legislative developments, trends and industry knowledge through participation in professional and industry associations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3-5 years of relevant human resource experience and/or training
  • PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in applying labor law and precedents to immediate and changing circumstances within multiple levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to build relationships at all levels within assigned area
  • A creative approach to problem solving, with a humble, team oriented and optimistic attitude
  • Ability to effectively translate complex information into clear and effective messages
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with associates at all levels
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences
  • Goal oriented and possesses the ability to prioritize on a consistent basis in an ever-changing environment
